How towing works around Knoxville

Knoxville is shaped by two interstates crossing inside the city and a ring of mountain and lake country around it, and both facts decide how a call goes. The I-40 and I-75 overlap through town, the stretch locals call the split, concentrates a large share of what we do into a few miles of road with heavy traffic and limited shoulder.

Outside that, the terrain takes over. Grades toward the Smokies, narrow lake access roads toward Norris and Douglas, and long two-lane runs out toward the Cumberlands. A recovery in those places is a function of the approach rather than the mileage, and any arrival estimate that ignores it is not a real one.

Weather matters more than the mild reputation suggests. East Tennessee bridges ice before the roads around them do, and a cold snap fills a morning with cars that will not start. Winter brine on the interstates is hard on brake and fuel lines, which is its own source of work.

When you call, the details that decide the truck are the same every time: where you are and which direction you were traveling, what the vehicle is and whether it is all-wheel drive, whether it rolls and steers, whether you have the keys, and what the access looks like. Two extra sentences on the phone is usually the difference between one truck and two.
